Are you a soda drinker? We know it can be refreshing to have a tasty soda every once in a while. However, even though they may taste good, they do close to nothing into nourishing your body. Drinking soda can become a bad habit and cause your body to crave sugar and other unhealthy ingredients within it. Some of these include Bisphenol A, artificial colors, high-fructose corn syrup, sodium benzoate, etc. Luckily, we have the perfect alternative. Are you looking to change your habits to stop drinking so much soda? Keep reading for some “how to” tips to lower your soda intake!
According to experts, there are four main steps to take to stop drinking soda:
- Make up your mind that you want to give up soda, or even cut back your intake. Experts say this because it takes a strong commitment to make it happen.
- Rather than cutting out your soda intake entirely right away, first, switch to diet soda. Paul Rozin, PhD, a psychology professor at the University of Pennsylvania suggests making a small decrease at a time. For example, first tell yourself you’ll only drink one sugary soda a day, and then slowly transition to only drinking diet sodas.
- It’s also recommended to eliminate drinking caffeine. Experts say that they believe one reason why it’s so difficult to stop drinking soda is because of the caffeine’s addictive component. It’s certainly not easy, however, lowering or dropping your soda and caffeine intake has many benefits and will make you feel healthier and more energized!
- Lastly, keep a lot of delicious alternative drinks to soda on hand so you always have other options. Some good alternatives are soy milk, skim milk, adding lemon or fresh fruit to your water, green or black tea, or cold pressed juice.
