Over the next few weeks, we're going to be putting a spotlight on the ingredients in Living Juice's organic cold-pressed juices. We'll take a closer look into the health benefits of the fruits and veggies that make up our favorite deliciously healthy drinks. This week, since technically fall is upon us, we're taking a deep dive into apples! Organic apples can be found in Living Juice's Fresh Start, Red Radiance, and Pineapple Punch.
Apples are firstly a great source of flavonoids, such as quercetin. Flavonoids are a class of pigment present in many plants, they usually account for the coloration of the plant. Flavonoid rich foods, such as apples, have many benefits. For one, they can inhibit inflammation and pain of swollen joints. They are also valued for their synergetic relationship with Vitamin C - they have been shown in scientific tests to boost the positive effects of Vitamin C in the body. Vitamin C is an important anti-oxidant which can prevent coronary heart disease and has been shown to suppress the symptoms of cold and flu. So, if you are starting to come down with the flu, drinking a Fresh Start, packed with lemons and apples, may help you fight it!
Apples are also known for their pectin content. Pectin is a soluble fiber with many known health benefits. Since it's a gel forming fiber, pectin can lower cholesterol levels. It is known for its anti-oxidant properties as well and is helpful for our digestive system. It is often found in remedies for gastrointestinal problems, such as diarrhea and dyspepsia. Pectin, in combination with insoluble fiber contained in apples, helps keep BMs regular and healthy, preventing diarrhea and constipation.
Arguably the best benefit of apples is their taste! Apples can be sweet or more sour depending on the variety, but they are a delicious way to stay healthy. When you go apple picking this fall, you can pat yourself on the back for not only having a fun time, but doing something healthy as well! And if you can't make it to an orchard, you can always pick up a Living Juice or have it delivered right to your door!
