March traditionally signifies the welcome transition out of winter months: “In like a lion, out like a lamb” as they say. In the coming weeks, those of us in temperature climates will begin to see thermometer readings rise and sunlight grow more intense. People will inevitably venture outside more often and spend more of their day in the fresh air. There’s a lot to look forward to.
As if we need more reassurance after winter, here are some reasons to eagerly anticipate the spring and the sunlight it brings.

Serotonin
More time spent outside usually means more exposure to sunlight, which can be a welcome reprieve after a long winter. Sunlight boosts serotonin levels, increasing feelings of focus and calmness, and wellness. In essence, sunlight helps humans feel happy.
Vitamin D
When exposed to the ultraviolet-B radiation in the sun’s rays, a person’s skin will create vitamin D. Vital for bone health, vitamin D allows our bodies to effectively absorb calcium. Some studies have shown that supplementation with vitamin D can be a promising mechanism to stave off infection and illness.
