Sneaky Ways to Work Out on Vacation

We're now in August, which means everyone is on vacation and the OOO emails are flowing. It's highly likely that you have a vacation planned for this month or at the very least one summer Friday. While vacation is a great time to rest and relax, taking even 1 week off from exercise can have effects on your body. This is not to say that you need to spend all of your time off in the gym, but you can definitely stay active no matter what type of vacation you have planned. Below are a few fun ways to get in that sweat sesh depending on the type of vacation you are taking!

Beach

Many sneaky ways to stay active at the beach include things you were probably already planning on doing like taking a walk, going for a swim, or playing beach volleyball. If you're looking to really branch out, you can try surfing or stand-up paddle boarding. The adventurous yogi may even want to look for a stand-up paddle board yoga class! If you're more of a lounger when it comes to the beach, try doing a set of body weight squats, push-ups, or sit-ups when shifting or getting up. This can help turn your tanning into toning!

City

Are you planning on exploring a new city this summer? City vacations are perfect for logging some extra miles. Instead of taking a bus tour, opt for a walking tour. Many cities now have bike share options as well, if you would prefer to get around on two wheels. If you really enjoy class workouts, you can ask the hotel concierge for recommendations (or do some searching on google/Classpass). Trying a new type of workout/class in a new city will make your trip even more memorable!

Camping

Just like taking a stroll on the beach, camping is usually accompanied with some type of hiking. Hiking can be a great way to get sweaty while camping, especially if you're hiking up a mountain! If you're camping near a body of water, swimming is always a great exercise as is kayaking. Outdoor yoga is also one of my favorite things to do when camping.

Stay-cation

If your plans include spending quality time at home, you could always continue to workout as you would regularly - but that wouldn't be much of a vacation from your daily routine. Why not try doing some fun workouts in a pool? Swimming laps is an option, as is a game of shark in the deep-end or simple water aerobics. Is there a park or part of town you'd like to explore? Taking a walk outside when you would normally be in the office is a double endorphin high. If you have big fitness goals, you could even plan a week-long healthy cleanse staycation!

Staying active on vacation

Most of these workouts are things you would regularly do while on vacation, but you may not think of them as an exercise. Try to be intentional about your activity. Mindfulness during activity can create a stronger connection with your body, better results and more satisfaction. A win-win-win for vacation! If you've indulged a bit while on vacation, try to balance it out with a health, organic cold-pressed Living Juice.
